Week of action celebrating the 100th anniversary of the International Women's Day

Czech Women's Lobby would like to invite you to a week of action celebrating the 100th anniversary of the International Women's Day. The week of action takes place between 8 and 12 March 2010.

You can look forward to screening, theater, literature readings, street happenings, discussions and meetings with the media. For more information, visit www.czlobby.cz or Facebook.

International Women's Day is not just a holiday for giving away gifts, flowers or showing symbolic honors. It is a day of political activism, the day to fight for women’s rights. We want to remember the rich and long history of this day, but also to highlight the current status of women and men. Today we do not have to fight for voting rights and equal access to education. The existing inequality does not only take the form of obvious discrimination but also operates effectively through more subtle status hierarchies. We still have to face the persisting gender stereotypes, unequal pay conditions, sexual violence, and unequal distribution of power. The International Women's Day celebrates the desire for freedom and equality of different women throughout the world and willingness to fight for it.
