The Czech Republic is the last member state of the European Union where it is not possible to obtain effective protection against discrimination. Although the Czech Republic should have adopted anti-discrimination law (ADL) before its entry into the EU, it has not done so until now (when an approval of the new European anti-discrimination directive is under way).

From January 1, 2009 Czech Republic chaired the EU. Although the Czech presidency of the European Union (CZ PRESS) is ideal for the promotion of equal opportunities between men and women on the Czech level, Czech government does not pay to this theme enough attention. Therefore, Czech Women´s Lobby considers important to realize "shadow events", highlighting the problems associated with the position of women and men in the society and present them in the European context.
